The Clinic’s Stephan van der Merwe has been appointed as consultant by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as one of their ‘E4J Ethics Champions’. Education for Justice (E4J), an initiative of UNODC, “was developed as a result of the Doha Declaration on Integrating Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice into the Wider United Nations Agenda to Address Social and Economic Challenges and to Promote the Rule of Law at the National and International Levels, and Public Participation, which was adopted by the Thirteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in 2015”. In this context, Stephan will consult with UNODC to carry out a module localization project that will involve adapting E4J modules to specific local, cultural, disciplinary, educational and other contexts. Stephan is currently a member of the International Association of Legal Ethics and a Fellow of the National Institute for Teaching Ethics & Professionalism (NIFTEP), based at Georgia State University, USA.
