“The African Digital University: Strategic Perspectives”
The African Digital University Network Colloquium was held in Stellenbosch on 17-18 April 2018. “The Colloquium serves as a platform to share perspectives and exchange notions regarding the integration of digital technologies at different levels at Higher Education Institutions. The Colloquium proposes a collection of presentations and discussions ranging from broad strategic interventions, drawing on good practices associated with programme renewal initiatives and learning from academics who have experienced such approaches at operational level.” (https://blogs.sun.ac.za/adu/)
The Clinic represented the Faculty of Law and our Stephan van der Merwe presented a paper entitled “Rise of the Robot Lawyers: Employing Double Robot Technology in Clinical Legal Education”. The presentation was well attended and received positively by the colloquium delegates. We had the opportunity to elaborate on the work done by the Clinic and specifically our innovative Online International Learning collaboration. During the talk we were able to link with our partners at Coventry University, to demonstrate the robot technology used during our pilot project in March 2018. We also discussed the initial feedback from students, challenges which surfaced and opportunities that we have now identified for continued work-integrated teaching and research in this regard.
